Payroll Giving

If you'd like to support Shooting Star through Payroll Giving, you can make your gift go even further. By giving a gift through your salary before tax, the amount that you would have paid as tax is added onto the total. It's simple to set up through your workplace and will automatically come out every pay day.

How it works

It’s simple, the amount you would have paid as tax is added on to your gift, which means your gift will go further. You will need to check with your employer that they offer a Payroll Giving Scheme and that they are registered with an HMRC Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). You will need to complete a form with your Payroll Department to pledge your gift. Please refer your employer to this page for any details that they may need to get started. The Payroll Giving Agency that your employer has chosen to appoint will manage the distribution of your gift to us.

Payroll giving – Information for Employers

How do I set up a Payroll Giving scheme?

The first step is to sign up with an HMRC registered Payroll Giving Agency  (PGA) complete their registration agreement  form and return it to them. See below for some suggested organisations.

Your PGA will tell HMRC that your company is operating a Payroll Giving scheme. They will validate your employees nominated charities and distribute the donations. The PGA will deduct a small administration fee (approx. 4% of the donation) to cover their costs.

Many employers arrange to pay this fee on behalf of their employees’ so that 100% of employees’ donations go to the charity. All modern payroll systems can facilitate Payroll Giving, usually as a simple tick box option. Payroll staff will deduct the amount, as per any other pre-tax deduction (after National Insurance, but before tax) and forward it on to your Payroll Giving Agency who will distribute the monies to your employees’ chosen charities.

Donations are deducted until the employee informs you to stop or change their donations. The agency will report back to you so that you can keep track of total employee donations. There are no tax forms for them to complete, and record keeping is straightforward.

Your selected PGA will supply you with all necessary help and advice to ensure that your scheme runs smoothly from the start.
